Armed subject attacked officer when officer attempted contact with him

Sacramento, CA | An armed subject with a gun attacked a police officer at Westfield Downtown Plaza.

Per the Sacramento Police Department, an officer on duty at the Westfield Mall Downtown Plaza observed a subject with a marijuana cigarette behind his ear Friday evening near the food court. When the officer attempted to stop the subject, the subject attacked the officer using tables and chairs.

The officer tased the subject but he continued to fight and flee. The subject tumbled down the escalator by the food court then continued to run as the officer pursued.

As the subject ran he tossed a gun, that per unconfirmed radio traffic, was stolen in a home burglary back in October.

Officers caught up with the subject in the parking garage where he was apprehended. The subject was transported to the hospital via paramedics to be medically cleared for booking; a routine procedure after being tased.
