Sacramento, CA | Firefighters battle a blaze near a Sacramento community.

A  large fire broke out in a field, Saturday, July 14, 2012, north-east of Downtown Sacramento in Rio Linda. When fire crews arrived, nearly ten acres had already been consumed and was making a run, crossing one creek and headed toward the next. Firefighters made a stand at the road and held the fire there. Had the fire spotted or leaped the road, it would have taken off in the next field and headed towards homes. To complicate matters, winds were moderate and the helicopter was only able to make one drop before its pump failed; rendering the air-support to be eyes-in-the-sky only.

Though no homes were immediately threatened and no one was injured, the threat was very near had firefighters not been able to hold the blaze at the road.
