Pedestrian allegedly killed by reckless DUI driver

Police investigate the scene of a three car accident involving an alleged DUI subject where an innocent pedestrian was killed.

Roseville, CA | Minding his own business, out for a walk, a Roseville pedestrian is killed by an alleged intoxicated and reckless driver.

Roseville police responded to a call of a reckless driver around 8 pm Tuesday evening, according to Roseville Police Department.

Officers  found the suspected driver at a recycle center on Washington Blvd. When police tried to block the suspect  from leaving,  the suspect pushed their patrol car into a field before taking off southbound on Washington Blvd.

Before the officers could get back to their vehicle, the suspected reckless driver was involved in an accident at the intersection of Washington Blvd and Main Street.

Three vehicles were involved in the incident. Two people were transported to the hospital and a pedestrian was killed.

Oleg Tarasuk and another driver involved in the wreck were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. After being medically cleared, Tarasuk was arrested on felony charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and gross vehicular manslaughter. His bail was set at $275,000, Roseville Press Tribune reported.

    Per Roseville PD: Roseville Police officers have arrested Oleg Tarasuk, 50, of Roseville on suspicion of DUI causing death or injury, and gross vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol. Tarasuk was the driver in a Tuesday evening traffic collision that injured another driver and took the life of a pedestrian, Gregory Louis Delacampa, 26, of Roseville Tarasuk, shown in the booking photo above, is being held in the Placer County Jail on $275,000 bail.

    At 8:04 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, Roseville Police received a call about a pickup driver who was following another vehicle closely, squealing his tires and driving in a very reckless manner in the areas of Junction Boulevard and Washington Boulevard. The caller said that the pickup driver had stopped at a recycling area on Washington Boulevard across from the Placer County Fairgrounds.

    Officers responded to the recycling area and contacted the pickup driver, Oleg Tarasuk. Suddenly the suspect gunned his engine and started to drive away. One of the officers drove his patrol car in the suspect’s path to prevent him from leaving, and the suspect used his pickup to push the patrol car out of the way, then drove back onto southbound Washington Boulevard. Officers got back into their cars to follow him, and came upon him involved in a collision at the intersection of Washington and Main Street. His pickup had collided with three other vehicles and struck a pedestrian, Mr. Delacampa, who died at the scene. The suspect and one of the other drivers were transported by ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Tarasuk was treated and released to Roseville Police custody, and was booked into jail on the charges listed above.

    The intersection of Washington Boulevard and Main Street remained closed until approximately 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning while investigators from Roseville’s Major Accident Investigation Team examined the scene.
